CITRUS COUNTY, FL. – New Life Medical Service Dogs, Inc. (NLMSD) and Service Dog Alliance of Florida (SDAF) are excited to announce the kickoff of the 2024 public awareness campaign to combat misrepresenting the use of a service animal. Laura Lee Putzback, ADAC with SDAF and Lindsay Tozer, NLMSD advisory member, SDAF campaign chair and Communications Officer for the Citrus County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller spearheaded the collaborative efforts of several organizations.
Citrus County community leaders are living proof of Mother Teresa‘s words, “I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; together we can do great things”. Public Awareness Campaign partners Jade White, Public Relations for the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce; Eric Head, Citrus County BOCC Community Services Director; Veronica Kampschroer, Citrus County BOCC Special Projects Manager – Strategic Initiatives; Anthony Seguin; and Katie Myers APR, HCA Citrus Director of Communications and Community Engagement were instrumental in developing the campaign tool kit that will be used throughout Citrus County.
The kit focuses on the rights and responsibilities provided by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Florida Statutes 413.08 and 413.081. It contains a door decal, information cards, staff reference guide, and access resources, including local training.
The input and guidance of these leaders has resulted in easily understandable and readily available materials. Keeping animals out of places where pets are not permitted and ensuring service animals are under control when in public ensures Citrus County is safe and accessible for all.
Email sdafcampaign@gmail.com to reserve a kit. Supplies are limited.
