Invest in You

Service dog fatigue is real.  When self-advocacy does not resolve the situation or issue, it’s time to decide how far you are willing to go to resolve the matter.  What works for you is most important.

Making an informed decision on which option to pursue in resolving the matter requires understanding the processes, timelines, and possible outcomes.  There is no right answer.  This may mean using one or more of the following strategies:

  • walking away and doing nothing
  • walking away and getting your needs met elsewhere
  • filing an appeal directly with the organization
  • seeking guidance or support from a disability advocate, Center for Independent Living (CIL), disability rights agency
  • filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau
  • filing a complaint with the state or local human rights commission
  • filing an administrative complaint with a federal agency such as the Department of Justice (DOJ) or Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
  • obtaining legal representation
  • filing pro se in federal court

First and foremost the decision is about your needs and not the intersts of the service dog community.    How much effort, emotion, time, and money are you willing to invest to solve the situation?
